HOI AN

Hoi An is a cute little town about halfway down Vietnam’s coast. It’s also a Unesco World Heritage site, and it's known for its countless tailors. We spent only two nights there—long enough to have some shirts and shorts made, go to the beach, and play some pool.

It was a gray day at the beach, but the water was warm and good for bodysurfing. We ended up renting a mat and getting foot massages from the beach ladies, at which point a large crowd of people (possibly tourists from China or Japan) gathered around us. They just observed us like some zoo exhibit for about five minutes, then they collectively shuffled down to the shore and stared at that for a while.

Once again, we ran into Peter and Elaine. Once again, they were helplessly wandering the streets, and I had to escort them to the local pool bar. (note: HLS alum Gregory Noonan's twin brother was not invited into this photo, but he somehow barged right into the middle of it).

Sick of trains, we hopped a flight to Saigon the next day.
