MEKONG DELTA
The Mekong Delta is the agricultural hub of Vietnam, but is also remarkably built- up. Cantho, where we stayed, is the second largest city in the south, but it has a completely different feel from Hanoi, Hoi An, or Saigon—it is not at all geared towards ex-pats or tourists.

Thankfully we met Rick on the way. Rick is an extremely nice Vietnamese guy, who 1) helped us get to Cantho; and 2) invited us to dinner at his family’s house once there.

The Mekong is famous for its floating markets. Never have I seen so many boats. Nor have I ever brandished such a long and skinny fruit.

After three nights in the Mekong Delta, I took the speedboat up the Mekong to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
